Guidelines for Renewing or Emergency Reissuing Chinese Passports

Visit China Visa Center provides expedited services for processing  Chinese Passport renew. If you wish to renew by yourself, you can refer to the guidelines below. All information is sourced from the Chinese Visa Application Center; specific cases should adhere to the requirements of the consulate or embassy.

Latest Update: Starting November 18, 2024, Chinese consulates and embassies in the U.S. have introduced a new passport application process combining “online application + on-site fingerprint collection.” After done fingerprint when renew,  applicant can use self-service kiosks entry into China.

For individuals who are elderly, physically impaired, or located far from the consulate and have challenges visiting the consulate in person, the “China Consular” app allows for an alternative “online application + two-way mailing” process. The consulate staff will activate this mode upon review of the applicant’s situation, following previous processing methods.

1. Check if you qualified for renew Chinese Passports  at U.S. Consulates

   • Passport Issuance: For Chinese citizens who have never held a valid passport.
   • Passport Renewal: When a Chinese passport has expired, or is nearing expiration, or its visa pages are almost used up, and the original passport not damaged.
   • Passport Reissuance: For passports that have been lost, stolen, or damaged.

2. DIY Process for Passport Applications

   1. Download and Register the “Chinese Consular”（中国领事） App

   • Available in app stores or Play store or via QR code.
   • Register with a Email or Chinese phone number. Applicants in the U.S. are advised to use email or a phone number from Chinese relative’s.

     

   2. Application Steps

   1. Information Submission:
      • Select “Passport/Travel Document” in the app.
      • Fill in personal details, sign required declarations, and upload documents, including the old travel document or passport.
   2. Order Submission:
      • Track progress via “My Orders” or “Messages.” in APP
   3. Mailing Materials:
      • After the Documents approved, the system status will change to “waiting for second verification” , Now you can mail required documents (e.g., old Passport, return envelope) to the designated consulate.
   4. Fee Payment:
      • Pay $23 via the app or send a money order with the mailed materials.
