Steps and Required Documents for Expedited Processing of a U.S. Passport renewal

Traveling next week and just realized  passport has expired. However, standard passport processing can take a long time. For instance, in 2023, the regular processing time for a U.S. passport is 8–13 weeks. What can you do?

You can apply for a passport book, which allows international travel and serves as an ID.

You may also apply for a passport card, which is only valid for land or sea travel  to  or from  Canada, Mexico, Bermuda, and the Caribbean.

First, check if you qualify for expedited U.S. passport renewal. You can apply for an expedited adult passport renewal if you meet all of the following criteria:

• You have your previous U.S. passport in hand.
• Your previous U.S. passport was issued when you were 16 or older.
• Your previous U.S. passport was issued within the last 15 years.
• Your previous U.S. passport is undamaged.

Please note: If your previous U.S. passport is lost or stolen, you cannot use the adult passport renewal service to replace it; instead, you must follow the replacement procedures for lost or stolen passports. To use our expedited adult passport renewal service, you must have the passport in your possession. Another requirement for renewing your passport is that it cannot have been issued when you were under 16. Minor passports differ from adult passports and cannot be renewed. Additionally, your current passport must have been issued within the last 15 years. If it exceeds this time frame, it will require processing as if it were your first U.S. passport application, essentially as though you have never held a passport before. Lastly, the passport must not be damaged.

If you meet these conditions, you can apply for an expedited new passport. Contact us to reserve an expedited appointment, with the option of receiving a new passport in as soon as one business day. Here’s how to apply:

Step 1: DS-82 – Application for an Adult Passport

Complete Form DS-82 . Fill out and print two copies of the form (handwritten forms are not accepted). Please Sign and Date.

Step 2: Photo (no glasses or hats) You may take the passport photo yourself or have it taken at a CVS, Walgreens, Walmart, or Post Office. We offer free photo editing if needed. The photo requirements are:

• In color, printed on matte or glossy high-quality photo paper
• Size: 2 x 2 inches (51 x 51 mm)
• Head size: 1 to 1 3/8 inches (25-35 mm) from chin to top of head
• Taken within the last six months to reflect current appearance
• White or off-white background
• Full-face view with a natural expression, eyes open
• Have someone else take the photo for you (no selfies)

Step 3: Travel Itinerary Provide a international trip ticket or a travel agency letter with details such as flight number, arrival/departure dates, and reservation code. Company letters on official letterhead are also accepted.

Step 4: Government Fee (Check or Money Order)

• Payable to: U.S. Department of State (exact wording required)
• Fee: $211.36 for a passport book, $241.36 for passport book + passport card
• Use a personal check or Money Order (no temporary checks). Include the applicant’s name and date of birth in the memo field.

If there are multiple applicants, provide a separate check for each.

Step 5,Current Passport
Your current passport or a passport that expired no more than five years ago. If you have a passport card, please submit it as well.

Step 6: Authorization Form This authorization form grants us permission to handle your passport application, submit necessary documents, and pick up the passport if needed. We will send to you by email after confirming your order. Print two copies and sign both.

Step 7: Mailing Documents Once everything is ready, mail the package to us using  with your preferred shipping service:

• For one-business-day urgent service, use FedEx Priority Overnight 8 am.
• For 2–4-day service, use FedEx Overnight, UPS Overnight, or USPS Priority Mail Express.
